Everyone wants a slice of Apple’s pie

Call them what you will, iphone “killers,” “clones” or “copycats.” There are a lot of similar looking devices out there that seem to have a lot in common with the iPhone. Out latest gem is the Pi Phone from Deeda.

At first glance the interface is strikingly similar to that of the iPhone. It apparently has similar functions as well. If you check out there site you can see demos of some of those functions. Or at least you can see where the demos are supposed to be, at last check the videos were down. Don’t be surprised if the entire site is down when you go to check it out either. It has been difficult to access of late. Makes you wonder if they can’t keep their website up, how can they build a solid phone?

The device is said to be open-source which is good for all of the Linux fans out there. But I don’t really see any substance to this device. All we have are a couple of shots of the phone and a brief description. According to the picture, they have been running on T-Mobile since December 31, 2006. No word from T-Mobile on whether or not they’ll actually be carrying this phone when (or if) it comes out.

ext Link Ads, Now Social Media Optimized

I received an email from Text Link Ads Publisher Support yesterday regarding a new product they have released - Post Level Text Link Ads. The idea is quite exceptional, and looking at it from a social media perspective, considering the importance of social media today, one has to wonder why no one thought of this before.

Have a look at the following example ad:

With the rise of socially driven content aggregation and dissemination sites, even sites that don't have regularly good content, can become one hit wonders. Take for example the site Doomlaser. While the site was relatively recently established and doesn't have much content to speak of, the latest entry on the site was Dugg (mirror).

What this means is that inevitably, many other sites will specifically link to the content on that page, and while the blog in general isn't popular (and may not become popular), that specific post will get decent referral traffic from all the links the Dugg content will generate. Given that, while you are highly unlikely to advertise on Doomlaser in general, it's probably not a bad idea to advertise on that one post from the blog. Similarly, from the site-owner's perspective, while the author would be unable to sell ads on the main site, it is possible to sell ads on that one post now.

While I gave an extreme example, it works just as well even on a big site where the content is regularly good. Let's for the sake of argument, look at this site.

This is definitely a great idea that captures the heartbeat of new online media today, if only Text Link Ads could market it properly (both to buyers and sellers) the potential could be huge.

Apple TV Gets Broadcast Marketing; Microsoft Still Doesn't

Looks like Apple gets convergence marketing for Apple TV (as expected), maybe Microsoft wants to take a hint from this commercial and apply it to all of there offers.

This is, in my opinion, the biggest problem with the platform. It’s not the lack of SoftSled, it’s not that CableCARD requires you to buy a new PC, it’s not limited codec support on Extenders. It’s the fact that people don’t know what they have or what they can do.
